IVC Commercial Supports Environmental Ethos at Cardiff Primary School

Llanishen Fach Primary School is a large primary school situated in the Rhiwmbina suburb of Cardiff, Wales. Providing education for over 500 pupils ranging from ages 3-11 and with 60 staff, the school is a busy and thriving establishment that prides itself on outdoor learning and environmental projects.

With a mix of buildings built between 1961 and 2013, Llanishen Fach is typical of many schools in the United Kingdom, with ongoing refurbishment required across multiple rooms and facilities. As part of this continual investment, Llanishen Fach has replaced its tired and worn carpets across the school with new Isafe 70 vinyl safety floors from IVC Commercial.

The school selected Isafe 70 for its ability to not only provide a sure surface underfoot, but also its durability, ease of maintenance and natural appearance. The floor was specified by Sarah Coombes, Head Teacher and Compliance Manager, Chris Newton:

“As we needed to replace the worn and difficult to clean carpets throughout the school, we knew that we needed an option that was both durable and easy to look after,” says Chris Newton. “We chose IVC Commercial’s vinyl flooring because it would not need replacing for a number of years and is easy to look after under our normal maintenance regimes.”

Llanishen Fach Primary School opted for a wood plank design which reflected the school’s environmental stewardship that sees a focus on outdoor learning and pupils caring for chickens, guinea pigs and bees among normal circular activities. The Isafe 70 floor complements the other finishes and decorations in the school, which include hessian coverings on classroom wall boards, living walls, plants and decorative branches.

A total of 600m2 of Isafe 70 was expertly installed to tight timescales by local contractor, GCH Flooring. The floor achieves a TRRL 36+ slip-resistant surface that retains appearance through its permanent Hypergrip surface finish. With Sanitec for anti-bacterial protection, Isafe 70 is a safer and more hygienic vinyl floor that doesn’t compromise durability, maintenance or style.

Made in Belgium, Isafe 70 is available in a range of 26 wood, terrazzo, mineral and colour designs. This makes it versatile enough so it can be used to meet the unique aesthetic of schools like Llanishen Fach, or to create zones and environments that can signify activities or inspire productivity, creativity and concentration.
